Last week, Kristin Singh (president) and Adrienne Garcia (president-elect) traveled to Sacramento to meet with other CASP affiliate leaders and board members. Day one was spent talking with members of other affiliate groups, sharing ideas and opportunities related to membership outreach, leadership development, professional workshops, and other ways to improve SANDCASP’s ability to support school psychologists in San Diego County.
The second day was spent hearing from Pedro Olvera, CASP President, and Margaret Sedor, Western Region Representative to NASP’s GPR Committee, about the important role school psychologists and our professional organizations play in advocating at the legislative level. CASP and its Political Action Committee (PAC) have been working hard behind the scenes to support or oppose legislation that impacts the work of school psychologists and the students they serve. They were instrumental in passing AB2246, requiring districts to have a suicide risk policy, and in making changes to the CDE Dyslexia guidelines to better reflect school psychologists’ expertise related to dyslexia.
Every year, SANDCASP makes a donation to the CASP Political Action Committee to support these advocacy efforts on behalf of our profession and the communities we serve.
